Abdul Varachhia

Abdul is a Consultant in the Third Sector and Civil Liberties team. He specialises in advising charities and the not for profit sector. He has 25 years’ experience including a number of years in house for a large international charity as sole in house counsel, Abdul has considerable knowledge and experience of running a global charitable organisation and the many challenges faced by the sector.

Abdul has expertise in the establishment/registration of charities, investigations/regulatory actions, brand protection, charity governance/trustee issues and contractual matters. In addition to his expertise in domestic law, he also has international experience particularly on issues relating to charities operating overseas, registering of branches and entities in foreign jurisdictions, global charity governance issues, managing brand protection internationally including trade mark portfolios and enforcement actions, reputation management issues, as well as specialist knowledge on managing legal risks and putting in place due diligence processes relating to anti diversion of funds.

Abdul has also taken on the role of company secretary for charities and he currently retains an in-house role with a large NGO as well as being advisor to a private family charitable trust and a trustee. He is therefore well placed to assist charities, NGOs and third sector organisations with their specific business needs.
